The Large Impact from the Seeds of God’s Kingdom

Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.” (Luke 13:18-19 NIV)

We have no idea what God will produce from the seeds we plant that come from His Kingdom. All we know is that God’s Fruit is the best, and better than we can come up with on our own (however that fruit may come).

God has generously given His Kingdom to us on Earth through Jesus His Son. As Jesus said: the Kingdom of God is at hand, it’s here among you (Luke 17:21).

We get to generously plant the Kingdom Seeds, even the smallest of seeds (the size of a mustard seed), which He makes into large trees that provides new places of care, even for the birds. And if God takes care of even these birds, how much more does He want to provide and take care of people who are of even greater value (Matthew 6:26-27).

Reflective Questions:
  • What seed is being planted in your life?
  • Which seeds are you planting in the lives of people around you?

Those little seeds have a wide impact.

Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.” (Luke 13:20–21 NIV)

We do not control how these things grow in our lives, but it does matter what we plant and how we nurture those seeds in our lives and in our family, friends, and people we run into as well. (Loving God & Loving Your Neighbors)

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. (1 Corinthians 3:6 NIV)

Generously plant seeds of God’s Kingdom. We get to be stewards of what God has graciously given to us to generously give to others.

I’m excited to see the fruit God is producing in us and in the lives of our neighbors and communities.

...Better than Gold & Silver

“[Wisdom’s] fruit is better than fine gold;
what I yield surpasses choice silver.”

(Proverbs 8:19)

This proverb has caught me in my tracks often, considering what we are spending our time with, chasing after, or considering what is of great value and worth. Sure, money can help us gain something tangible which can be here today and gone tomorrow; however, wisdom is something that leads us throughout life, even eternally.

After taking a moment to consider where we spend our time at throughout each day, I begin to examine how I would be if I spent that time pursuing God’s Wisdom through His Word, guided by His Spirit. That wisdom compounds in our life with fruit that is better than fine gold and has a great yield that surpasses choice silver.

I’m thankful God has graciously and mercifully given us the way to seek and pursue Him through Jesus, His Word, & His Spirit.

James 1:5 (NIV)
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

James 3:17 (NIV)
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

Ephesians 1:17 (NIV)
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Ephesians 3:10 (NIV)
His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,

1 Corinthians 2:13 (NIV)
This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

Colossians 1:25–29 (NIV)
I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

Guided Prayers - Verses to Pray Through:

Colossians 2:6–10 (NIV)
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.
For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.
