The Israelites wanted a specific type of King now, yet God was planning to give them a King after His own heart soon. Before King David is idolized too much as a hero in contrast to King Saul, we see David’s strengths and weaknesses; we are reminded who the true King/Hero is. God is the Mighty Faithful Hero/King, who is true to His promises, working through His people and His established kingdom, forever.
