We Are Redeemed!

Christ has redeemed us!

But, what does that mean? Do you live that truth out? Do you help encourage other redeemed disciples?

Is redeeming like restoring an image? Is it like redeeming points or rewards for something else? What context did Jesus redeem us?

In Jesus' time, the cultural practice of redemption meant one person would graciously pay a ransom price for another person to be set free from their enslaved debt. Redemption was as much a celebration for the person being set free as it was pointing to the generous redeemer who paid the price. It costed the redeemer something.

This sounds like the type of redemption Jesus was doing.

Jesus paid the ransom price that cost Him His own blood, in order to set us free from our enslaved deathly debt of sin. We are no longer enslaved to our old master, sin. Now, we have been bought at a costly price by our redeemer, set free from our old master of sin. We belong to Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer.

We are His disciples now, making disciples of Jesus, letting them know how Jesus has paid the ransom price to redeem them from their enslavement to sin as well.
